FUN CUP ENDURANCE 2025 – ROUND SEVEN – SILVERSTONE – PREVIEW
IT’S GETTING TIGHT AT THE TOP!!
Just five points seperate Team Olympian/GRD and UVio/Hofmann’s as we head for Silverstone this weekend, round seven of the 2025 Fun Cup Endurance Championship.
Defending Champions Olympian/GRD had continued to take their winning streak into this season, winning the first four rounds until we arrived at Croft.
A fourth place in the Sprint race and second in the Croft Enduro for Chris Dovell, Simon Rudd and Riley Phillips just happened to coincide with UVio/Hofmann’s Farquini Deott/Fabulous Randaccio finally returning to winning ways in both races, after an absence of over a year.
Currently third in the table are AxiaMetrics Chris Weatherill and Greg Evans, rejoined this weekend by John Perrott who was absent from Croft. They have had third place finishes at Brands Hatch, Anglesey and Croft and currently lie third in the Masters Class too.
Vapeclub EDF’s Vlad Vassiliev had his career best finish at Croft, with second place in the Enduro. With Ted Bradbury sharing this year, they should be aiming for another podium this weekend if not higher.
Sherardize UK’s Peter Belshaw returned to the Fun Cup this season after a number of years away and brought with him the previous super sub Teddy Wilson. They have been challengers from the start, currently fifth in the Championship and three podium finishes finally preceding a win at Croft last time out.
As well as being sixth overall in the Championship Red River Sport have had three sixth place finishes, their best so far this season. They currently lead the Masters Class by 12 points and this weekend Gareth Williams rejoins Johny Mowlem and Bonamy Grimes, after he missed Croft too.
It’s been mixed fortunes for Team FFS this season, their first full Fun Cup season since debuting at Donington last season. The father and son pairing Barry Thompson and Caterham Championship winning son Lewis, once again have Nick Highton joining them, looking to improve on fourth place at Brands Hatch in the first round.
The Thompson’s aren’t the only father and son racers, as Charlie Hart is back in action with Dad Chris for Morpheus Motorsport and Jack Minshaw continues with father Jason and Uncle Guy in the Demon Tweeks car.
There is a fourth father and son pairing making their Fun Cup debut. Former Renault Spider racer Anders Hildebrand makes his long awaited return along with drifting son Axel. Their Sunoco livered car was on show the Autosport international Show in January and they have Fun Cup legend Phil Keen completing their line-up.
Just to make up the nice handful of fathers and son we have Pierre ad Andre Renom too.
Racelogic changed cars at Anglesey and got a fifth placed finish. Julian Thomas is a former multiple Champion and both he and David Denyer have proven podium pace.
There is plenty of Fun Cup experience in the second Demon Tweeks car with Mark Burton and Graham Pattle
Signature RV are another team who have been trying to sort their new car. Marcus Clutton is back with Steve Ruston and John Whitehouse, having missed Croft too, and they are looking to improve on sixth in round two at Oulton.
Rob Croydon is yet another driver who had a different driver sharing at Croft. Joe Wiggin came in for Matt Larbey, but normal service is resumed at Silverstone for the Rare Vinyl TLR Team.
Both Greenheath and PLR Racing are seeking their first podiums of the year. Greenheath’s Gary Bate/Paul Turner are seventh overall and sixth in the Masters, with a best of fourth at Anglesey. PLR’s Neil Plimmer/Tim Wheeldon and eighth overall and fourth in the Masters, with a best of fourth in the last round at Croft.
It’s been mixed fortunes this season for both Seed Data and B.E.R.T. Mike Devlin and Matt Hogg are still waiting for a top six, with their luck rarely seeming to match their pace. After moving from Axia Metrics to set up his own team with fellow biker Angus Gough, Jonathan Railton’s B.E.R.T. team have made steady progress but have had a few dramas too.
Race Ventura are back in action after missing Croft, fielding their usual quartet of Dominic Fletcher and Bob Bannister sharing with Stuart and Richard Bliss, while at FF Corse’s Ian Morris is back after Croft, and has Andrea Seminara sharing this weekend after buying the fully refurbished 263 car only last week!
There is a second FF Corse in the hands of Dean Steele and experienced GT and Endurance racer Michael Broadhurst, who are eligible for the first time winner prize.
One of the youngest pairings is William Smith and Josh Phelps for 2nd Choice Racing. Smith’s father Simon used to share the Greenheath car with Gary Bate and young William had a one-off in Fun Cup too after graduating from Karting.
