FunCup Oulton Finale Sat 1372 e1521555112782 scaled 1

Experienced Fun Cup racer, Paul Turner & super sub, Harry Mailer, will join forces with DespatchBay’s Team Owner, Andy Bicknell, to forge an exciting new driver line-up for 2018. DespatchBay had a strong season in 2017 & there have been many lessons learnt for all of the team, which should stand them in good stead for 2018.

Paul Turner, runner up in the 2016 championship, said: “I’m delighted to be joining DespatchBay. This will be my 6th season, having joined Fun Cup only one season before Andy, we have both learnt a great deal together.  Our ‘baptism of fire’ into racing was really similar; In fact, both of us had never raced before joining the championship”.

He added: “We have always had a great friendship & joining his team is so exciting for me; I can’t wait for the season to start. The car is really well run by Solutions Racing, who ran my previous team too”.

Also joining them is the super talented Harry Mailer, who is currently being hung from the ceiling with weights attached to his feet. This will continue until he reaches 6 ft. Mailer brings with him great pace & hopefully a good balance to the predominantly lanky, middle aged & overweight team. Whilst he will not be competing in all the rounds, Bicknell has yet another great sub lined up in Mailer’s absence.

Mailer’s father/Manager, Nick Mailer, said: “I am greatly impressed with the setup at Solutions & I am confident that we have every opportunity to do well this season”.

Harry Mailer, added: “Joining DespatchBay for the forthcoming season is really exciting & I can’t wait for Oulton. The team has always been at the sharp end of the pack & has clearly provided a great car. There’s no doubt in my mind that we have a title winning line-up, now we just have to prove it. After coming so close last season, I feel like there is unfinished business”.

The team’s stalwart, Andy Bicknell, had a great season last year, slowly making his way up the field, to complete ‘The Dusty Bin’ (3,2,1) up all three steps of the podium in consecutive races, where he finished on the best possible high, with a victory at the Oulton Park season finale.

Bicknell said: “If there was ever a race to win, it was that epic last round. I had a strong team-mate in Marcus last year, which has done wonders for my own driving (I think). So, it’s now time to fledge the proverbial nest of Clutton & embrace my new line-up. With the support of Solutions Racing, we certainly intend to be at the pointy end”.

The trio is now looking forward to their first test at Donington Park tomorrow.
