IT’S SEVEN UP, BUT IN FAVOUR OF WHO?
It’s the annual trip to Brands Hatch for Fun Cup this weekend, with all to play for at the top of the table.
With four wins from six GRD’s Chris Dovell, Simon Rudd and Riley Phillips must start as favourites, being reigning champions and championship leaders.
But since changing cars after their Snetterton disqualification, UVio Hofmanns have been on the podium in three of the last four races, with Farquini and Fabulous winning the first race at Anglesey.
UVio are third in the points, just one point behind Greenheath’s Gary Bate and Paul Turner after they had to do an extra pit stop for fuel. Greenheath have had three fourth place finishers, but still seeking their first podium of the season and that elusive victory.
Former Champions GCI have been at the sharp end in most races, with Craig Butterworth and Ian Wood. They were second at Snetterton, their only podium this season, but are more than capable of taking the top stop too.
Having missed the Snetterton round Vapeclub are still playing catch up after starting the season with a third at Oulton. But since then they have been podium finishers in every round, winning the Donington Sprint race and only losing out in the Enduro to a late penalty.
This weekend Ted Bradbury has a different co driver, as Neo Clarke moves from Tropical Rocket, to deputise for Vlad Vassiliev.
Signature RV didn’t have the best of starts to the season, but three top six finishers in the last four races, has moved Steve Ruston, John Whitehouse and Marcus Clutton into sixth in the points and the leadership of the Masters class.
Rare Vinyl have gone from strength to strength too, with the Rob Boston run car third in the Donington Enduro, with Rob Croydon making his seasonal debut alongside Tom Roche.
Will Blackwell-Chambers has also shared the Rare Vinyl car, but continues to share the second RBR car with Jason Baker and James Reilly this weekend.
There are the usual two Demon Tweeks cars in action again, with Jason, Guy and Jack Minshaw sharing 249, now seventh in the points and third in the Masters Class.
Historic Grand Prix ace Michael Lyons shares with Mark Burton and Matt Reeve in the 207.
Racelogic’s Julian Thomas and David Denyer make their return after missing Snetterton, as do Track Focused’s Sean Cooper and Mike McCollum.
Mike Devlin and Matt Hogg are eighth in the points for Seed Data, but have had a disappointing run since taking fifth at Snetterton.
Red River Sport have their usual trio of Bonamy Grimes, Gareth Williams and Johnny Mowlem, still seeking their first top six of the year, while Team Viking/Ursus Capital’s Mark Holme has Nick Nunn sharing again as they aim for a top 10.
AxiaMetrics keep their line-up from Donington, where Ed Bridle made his Fun Cup return with Chris Weatherill and William Smith and Neil Plimmer is back too. The captain was a very rare absentee at Donington, but has the pacey Lewis Thompson in the car this weekend.
With Sapra changing teams, Shay Brennan has Anthon Jahreskog and MX-5 racer Chris Thelwell stepping in to the breach.
Clapham North’s George Grant and Abbie Eaton will be looking to continue their steady progress in their first Fun Cup season, while at FNS Morpheus John Perrott continues to deputise for Stephen Walton alongside Greg Evans, looking for more success after taking sixth last time out.
Supersub Matt Hyde goes from coaching to the driving seat to share with Elisha Day and Simon Lidzen at Racefeed.Ai too.
Miguel Faisca and Andrea Seminara and due out for AI Racing Tech, as are Gary Summers and Graham Winstone for G Force.
Finally we have two father and son teams. Regulars Andre and Pierre Renom are joined by Canadian visitors Gordon and Stewart Ross. Gordon has raced with us in the past, but it’s a Fun Cup debut for Formula Ford racer Stewart.
The action starts on Saturday morning with 45 minutes of qualifying at 9.50 and it’s lights out at 13.15 for our four-hour race.
